September BMQG meeting

Wow! What a great turnout for our September meeting! The classroom at Strawberry Patches was filled with enthusiastic quilters. Christy asked the three new attendees to introduce themselves, which Karen, Darla and Mary Kay did quite well. (Ladies, I apologize if any of your names are misspelled.)

Christy's announcements:
  • The Road to California quilt festival is Jan. 23-26 at the Ontario Convention Center. Strawberry Patches will be a vendor at the show.
  • Lots of classes have been added to the schedule at Strawberry Patches, including several taught by BMQG members. Pam Gavin is teaching a Modern Dresden Pillow; Jane Mulligan teaches beginning quilting, and Kara Haushalter has several classes for modern-style quilts.
  • The September sew-in is at Bolts to Binding on Saturday, Sept. 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For our October program, Laura will lead a presentation/discussion about joining the parent organization, the Modern Quilt Guild. We have until Dec. 2014 to decide whether to join. If we do join, we'll need members to volunteer to be officers and board members. We will vote in November on both the officers and whether to join the parent guild at this time.

Nicci gave an update on our philathropic project, Quilted Hugs. The two quilts to be donated are coming along nicely and will soon be ready to bind.

See the photos below for our show-and-tell ... fewer completed projects than usual, but as the holidays get close, our sewing machines will be whirring!

Kelly Neal won the door prize drawing. Be sure to wear a handmade name tag and bring your completed projects for show and tell to increase your chances of winning!

Christy explained the table runner swap; they'll be exchanged at our holiday party in December. Forms were passed around to those who hadn't signed up yet and wanted to participate.

Pam presented our September program - low volume quilt and pillow projects, and some ideas for table runners. Pam's projects and creativity are always so inspiring - several members started planning low-volume projects!

Our next meeting is Saturday, Oct. 19 at Strawberry Patches. Hope to see everyone there1
