November meeting

No one's asked for our autographs yet, but the November Bakersfield Modern Quilt Guild meeting kicked off with the announcement by President Lynn that we were spotlighted in the premiere issue of Modern Quilts Unlimited magazine. The feature article, written by Lynn, included several photos of our projects and members. The magazine hasn't been stocked in any of the local bookstores or fabric shops, but Lynn is placing an order with the publisher for several copies.

Our next sew-in will be Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bolts to Binding. That is the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, but we hope to have a good showing from those who stayed home to eat turkey!

Entries for the QuiltCon quilt show (part of the festival in February) are due Nov. 30. At least a couple of our members are working on quilts to enter. The fee is $30 per entry.

Our December meeting will be Saturday, Dec. 15 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Strawberry Patches. It will be our Christmas/holiday party. Please bring an appetizer to share. We'll also have a charm pack swap - please bring a new, manufacturer's charm pack in a plain, unmarked paper bag.

We will not have a December sew-in because of the holidays.

The Modern Quilt Guild has announced a new challenge that starts approximately Dec. 1 and will end Jan. 31 using the Madrona road fabric line from Michael Miller. We will receive fat eighth bundles and can make anything we want from them. We will need to let them know how many members will participate so they know how much fabric to send.

New officers for our local guild will be elected at the December meeting. Positions are still open, and the descriptions of each are available here on the blog. Remember, if we want to keep the guild going, we need officers!

As usual, we had an awesome show-and-tell session of items made by several of our members. See photos below.

Nicci taught us how to make and attach prairie points to our projects with a tutorial using tea towels. We folded and stitched, and several members finished or nearly finished their project. They will make great Christmas gifts. Thanks for showing us the way to perfect points, Nicci!

Liz, thank you for the surprise visit. It was wonderful to see you!

I've received the magazines for those of you who ordered one, and I'll have them with me at the sew-in next Saturday. See you all there!
