Question of the Week

How many UFO's do you have? Why haven't you finished them? Will you finish them, or are you letting them go and moving on to other projects?

  1. I have 2 UFOs in my closet. One project was one that got put away because I had shop orders that were priority...so there it sits waiting for me to have time. The second was one that frustrated me so I'm just waiting until "we" are on good terms again. lol I will finish both, but for the time being am working on other things. :)

  2. I probably have 5-6 UFOs, some of which haven't seen daylight for a few years. I don't think that's so bad considering I've been an active sewist/quilter for about 7 years. Now, if you want to know how many kits/projects I've purchased and never even started, that's a much scarier number.

  3. I recently sorted my sewing room and pulled all the UFOs and placed each one and with its pattern and parts in Giant ziplock bags. The bags filled several containers. As I went through each one I noted how long it had been hanging around and thought about why it was still unfinished.
When they were all sorted I gave some away and several I took out the blocks that were completed and put the fabric back back in the stash because I knew they would not be finished by me. Some had fabrics I didn't like, a pattern or colors that didn't suit me. 5 were from classes I took to learn a process which I didn't like. The orphan blocks will become table runners or pillows and 1 will be a small quilt which are quick projects that can be finished and donated.

The remaining 20+ UFOs will get completed. Several will be smaller than the original plans, lap quilts instead of twins etc. I have prioritized them in order of work involved and will get the quick hits completed first and the sense of accomplishment will keep me motivated.

  4. I have about 10 quilt UFOs that are mostly applique projects. A will probably finish 3 of the 10 and the others I will trim to pillows or table runners. I usually finish what I start, but haven't finish them as my taste in fabrics and patterns have changed. I am trying to sew more modern, and making many other items rather than quilts. I have joined a flickr group "Lovely Finishes" to help me get motivated to finish up some projects! Accountablity helps me stay focused when I am drawn to new fabulous prints/patterns.

  5. I am afraid to count all the UFO's but definitely 10+. May finish 1or 2 but my tastes have changed so unless they are finished as donations they will continue to rest peacefully in the closet. Like Laura I have so many unstarted(is that a word?) kits and projects, would need to live to be about 350 yrs young and still not sure if it would all be done.

  6. I actually don't have that many. I quilt top from 2009, a Christmas tree skirt from 2011 and 2 mug rugs from this past Christmas. But, like Laura and Cindy, if I counted all the fabric/books/patterns that I've purchased with a project in mine, I'd be in trouble!
