Modern blocks, Improv, and Swaps

The June meeting of the BMQG (Strawberry Patches, June 15, 2013 at 2pm) (please note we had an incorrect date that has now been changed!!) will be a demonstration of improvisational blocks which can liberate your creative sewing, from ho-hum to wow!  The freedom to create something fresh, and fun is what improv quilting is all about!  Bring a few neutral 5x5 blocks and some 1.5" strips of any color, and we can have some fun making improv blocks.  If you'd like to try a couple blocks, bring your sewing machine, rotary cutter/mat, square ruler, and we can have some fun with 2 improv blocks.

Improv blocks for QuiltCon challenge

Choose fabrics in assorted combinations, such as these Quiltcon colors - very citrus (oranges, yellow, aqua, blue, green) and then add a neutral.  Or just bring a scrap bin and let's do a little sewing, slicing, and creating.

Anyone interested in Swaps? I've mentioned that the best way is to join Flickr.com and then search for a modern swap.  Swaps are simple and a fun way to challenge your sewing skills, make new online friends, and see some amazing projects.  Even if you're not interested in swapping, then choose to join the Modern Quilt  group and see some amazing quilts and designs.  I've learned a lot and I think you'll enjoy the visual variety of what other modern quilters are creating! Here's a picture of a recent pillow I made for the Pillow Talk Swap R 10.

Calling all BMQG members!!!!  Help replenish the give away basket, by bringing a fat quarter, modern quilting book,  or miscellaneous sewing items.  I just got a bargain from Craftsy of 50 fat quarters - and I'm bringing them all bundled up for future give aways.  Plan to come to the meeting and bring another young mom who needs to get her sewing machine out!!

PS - I've had a chance to visit our past board member Lynn Douglass over at the central coast in Morro Bay, CA, and she's doing great.  Still lots of unpacking and organzing to do, but her hubby, dog, and cat are all doing well in the mild temperate beaches.
